According to an Arizona State Survey sponsored by the Rockefeller foundation, 67% of Employers plan to offer incentives to returning workers to get vaccinated and 44% of those will then mandate vaccinations if that doesn’t work. 33% say they will encourage but not require vaccinations.
According to Amber Clayton, director of the SHRM Knowledge Center, the industries most likely to require vaccinations are Healthcare and Education. For example, it looks like the University of California will propose a policy requiring on-site students, faculty and staff members to be vaccinated by the start of the fall semester. The school has said that “Vaccination is essential for the safety and well-being of the community.”
The next group of employers likely to mandate vaccinations are in service industries requiring close contact with other workers and customers. These companies include large restaurants, bars, and travel companies.
Small businesses will probably offer the most flexibility for existing workers as well as new hires. A survey conducted by National Federation of Independent Business suggests that only 3% of small companies will require vaccinations.
According to SHRM, 52 percent of workers would support their employers’ mandating that employees be vaccinated. However, in an extremely tight labor market, all bets may be off if it means employers can’t find employees to fill their open positions.
