A lot has been said about automation and the end of jobs, but some futurists are busy predicting what jobs of the future might actually be. Here are some of the more interesting positions you might find yourself recruiting for in the years to come.
- Space Tour Guide. Richard Branson’s already taking reservations for the moon and beyond. Can space tour guides be far behind? 1
- Transhumanist designer/engineer. A human resource type of position that merges the talents of robots and humans in the workforce to maximize their performance. 2
- 3D Printing Engineers. From food to fashion and construction, 3D printing will be ramping up big-time. Custom food, clothing, and housing will be printed to order.
- Weather Controller. According to futurist Morris Miselowski, by 2050, we won’t only be able to predict weather patterns but control them as well. This could have major implications for improving agriculture and averting natural disasters. 3
- Social Education Specialists. When looking for work, soft skills will become even more vital in the collaboration between man and machine.
- Personality Services.This job is about giving machines some personality. Funny, smart, famous or flirty, your robot or computer can be equipped with just the right “personality package.”
- Waste Data Managers. As cloud storage proliferates, there will be a need for streamlining data storage by eliminating redundancies and clutter.
- Urban Agriculturalists. These specialists will develop alternative, adaptable farming. Grocery stores will be able to grow the food they sell you right below their store.
- Augmented Reality Designer. Augmented reality delivers virtual elements as an overlay to the real world. It has a wide array of applications including real-time, on-site training. 4
- Alternative Currency Bankers. You may have vaguely heard something about Bitcoin, but, according to Javelin Strategies, 20% of all online trades are already being done with alternative currencies. The next generation of Fintech and alt-currency banking has already begun.
